Grilled Tri-Tip

Tri-tip beef is a cut popular in the western United States and is great for grilling. It is flavorful but not the most tender of cuts, so it is greatly enhanced with a marinade, such as the delicious one we provide below.
Yield 8 servings

2 tablespoons ketchup
3 tablespoons soy sauce
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 onion
2 cloves garlic
1 jalapeno pepper, stem removed
1/4 cup cilantro (ok to include tender stems)
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 teaspoon lime zest
1 lime, juice only
1/2 lemon, juice only
1/3 cup honey
4 pounds (approximately) beef tri-tip

1 Place all ingredients except tri-tip in a blender or food processor. Blend on high speed until only small pieces of vegetables and herbs are visible.
2 Place tri-tip in a plastic bag or glass bowl. Pour marinade over beef, turning to coat. Seal and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
3 Prepare grill for high heat.
4 Remove meat from marinade. Discard marinade. Place on grill and cook turning once, 15 to 20 minutes for medium rare.
5 Slice thinly to serve.
